Adventures in Marketing Communications
It's not creative unless it sells.

"Proposals written by John Morley sell." This observation was made by a project manager at Maritz, a national provider of marketing programs and performance improvement, where I also wrote and designed many of the marketing communications projects they sold.

In addition to working on a contract basis with a number of Fortune 500 clients, I have also run, or partnered in, a number of my own businesses. This means a strong business sense, experience developing all forms of marketing communications, and a proven ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with clients at all levels within the corporate structure.

My broad skill set is anchored solidly by writing for virtually every medium now used for marketing, from brochures to Web sites. This includes a strength in proposals that demonstrate a flair for bringing the vision to life and a technical facility for articulating how it's made possible.

  • Performance Strategies, Inc. --Develop the Web site and all communications plus instructional design and proposal writing for this sales training business targeting the automotive market. 8/03-8/04.
  • Copley Networks --Consultant and writer for a business plan used to solicit from investors second-round financing for this maker of optical network systems. 1/01-3/01.
  • Toyota Web Projects --Writer and manager for projects including proposal development, marketing communications for the launch of the "Dealer Daily" Business-to-business private network, the University of Toyota Web site, corporate policies and procedures for domain names, and a lead delivery Web site. 10/99-5/00.
  • Script Werx --Created all user documentation and a Web site for this software product used to write film and video scripts. http://www.scriptwerx.com. 1992-present.
  • Carlson Marketing Group --Writer on projects ranging from proposals to direct mail to Ride & Drive tours, primarily for Mazda, including standing in as a creative director. 1992-1993.
  • Maritz Performance Improvement --Writer on a range of projects, primarily writing proposals, video scripts and elements for live events. 1989-1994; 1999-2000.
  • Visual Services Inc. (VSI) --Writer on projects ranging from product introduction video scripts to an owner's guide, primarily for Hyundai and Lexus. 1989-1994.
  • Trammell Crow --Leasing video for The Citadel, a mixed retail and business park south of Los Angeles. 1994.
  • City of Los Angeles --Call for entries video for an urban design competition, featuring Ray Bradbury. 1989.
  • Ahmanson Commercial Development --Leasing video for the Pasadena Towers office building and retail complex. 1989.
  • Four Seasons Hotel --Marketing video for their Newport resort, targeted to meeting planners and travel agents. 1988.
