Piedras y Olas
Bay Shot
In the classically crescent-shaped bahia (bay) at San Juan del Sur, the commercial fishing boats still far outnumber the yachts.
Beach at Magic Hour
A swath of beach at San Juan del Sur presents a number of palapa (palametto-thatched)-roofed restaurants, where you can enjoy the sun setting into the Pacific and then relax or party into the night.
Jean and Chris
Co-owners of Piedras y Olas (Pelican Eyes) resort, Chris Berry and Jean Brugger, are involved in the community through the A. Jean Brugger Foundation Fund, Inc., which provides scholarships for school uniforms and educational expenses.
Casa Oro
A number of youth hostels, providing inexpensive basic accommodations, attract backpackers from around the world, largely by word of mouth.
Pescador
Pescadors (fisherman), with their nets, floats and lines, are a typical sight in the streets and shops of San Juan del Sur.
Marsella
Marsella Beach Resort, five km (three miles) north of San Juan del Sur, provides a more secluded stay in octagonal cabà±as with magnificent ocean views.

Gran Oceano
Hotels can be found in a number of different price ranges. As is common in Latin America, a plain facade or blank exterior wall may hide a lobby featuring beautiful tile work and furniture, and a gracious courtyard.

Hotels, most of which are up to speed with computers and email, can be found in a number of different price ranges. Don't rely on your host being able to speak English at hotels in San Juan del Sur other than Villa Isabella and Piedras y Olas (Pelican Eyes).
Guard
A gated entry leads into a new development going in just south of San Juan del Sur, Paradise Bay.
